shortest focal length lens for digital back on LF camera?

Greetings.

This is an open-ended question, without any particular brand in mind.

How wide angle are you able to go with your digital back? I mean to ask what is

the shortest focal length lens are you able to use with your digital back. (A

film does not have the limitation of receiving light at an oblique angle, as a

digital back currently has). My question would have implications for lens

tilt/shift also, besides just using a wide angle lens.

Is this a fair question to ask? I am considering buying a digital back. How wide

do I shoot right now..? 43mm on a 6x7 format. 40mm with a 6x6 format. And 90mm

with my 4x5 -- actually I would go wider, but have not purchased any lens in the

75mm range yet.

Thanks.

not so much the light coming in from an oblique angle but the camera being able to focus at

that distance, ie the flange distance. my 45 camera can only go down to 50mm/2inches, so

lenses with that flange distance only work. seems to take all 45 lenses, i think the 48mms

will do it. a 35mm digital lens on a view camera only offers very little movements, the 28mm

offer 0 movements, not to mention the cheap lenses of this range are $1500 and up. for wide

angle i would just slap the back on my 645 camera with a 35mm lens.

Are you getting a scanning back that covers 4x5 or a chip back that doesn't cover 4x5?

If a chip back the 28mm Apo Sironar Digital covers a 70mm circle.

Most digital lenses cover 150mm or smaller circle so with a back that is covering 4x5 you

would not have shift ability. With chip backs you would.
