l_a_k_h_i_n_d_e_r
Greetings. This is an open-ended question, without any particular brand in mind. How wide angle are you able to go with your digital back? I mean to ask what isthe shortest focal length lens are you able to use with your digital back. (Afilm does not have the limitation of receiving light at an oblique angle, as adigital back currently has). My question would have implications for lenstilt/shift also, besides just using a wide angle lens. Is this a fair question to ask? I am considering buying a digital back. How widedo I shoot right now..? 43mm on a 6x7 format. 40mm with a 6x6 format. And 90mmwith my 4x5 -- actually I would go wider, but have not purchased any lens in the75mm range yet. Thanks. larry_menzin
I'm using a Rodenstock 35mm HR lens on an Arca-Swiss 6x9. You can probably use the Rodenstock 28mm HR on the same camera, but the lens costs about $5000.
michael_notar1
not so much the light coming in from an oblique angle but the camera being able to focus at that distance, ie the flange distance. my 45 camera can only go down to 50mm/2inches, so lenses with that flange distance only work. seems to take all 45 lenses, i think the 48mms will do it. a 35mm digital lens on a view camera only offers very little movements, the 28mm offer 0 movements, not to mention the cheap lenses of this range are $1500 and up. for wide angle i would just slap the back on my 645 camera with a 35mm lens. bob_salomon
Are you getting a scanning back that covers 4x5 or a chip back that doesn't cover 4x5? If a chip back the 28mm Apo Sironar Digital covers a 70mm circle. Most digital lenses cover 150mm or smaller circle so with a back that is covering 4x5 you would not have shift ability. With chip backs you would.
kelly_flanigan1
The old 4x5 phase one digital scan backs I use here have a 7x10cm active area; thats a truncated 4x5.
