pcm__
Hi all , Wondering what would be the best way to light an eye? The shot desired would be direct - not at 3/4 view which I assume will bring issues with reflections and pupil. Any suggestions for lens use as well? I'n thinking 105 macro, but might actually need something longer (Nikon mount)? available gear: 2 Profoto compact 600's -Photek softlighter -umbrellas -medium/large softbox -22" dish Thanks

pcm__
I wish... don't even know where I can rent one as the main rental house in town just switched to Elinchrom from Profoto. Any other suggestions with the gear available?
mike_earussi1
How close are you to the eye (you're talking near lifesize here, right?), 6", 12"? Any light you use will probably cast a shadow just from the camera alone. You might try really diffused light by bouncing your lights off the ceiling in hopes of eliminating potential shadows, but then your exposures will probably be too slow to eliminate subject motion. Ever thought of trying a small flashlight? You could angle it to one side preventing reflections. Just a guess. I would try an online rental store. I know they exist somewhere. The only other option, if this is just a one shot job, would be to "buy" a ringlight, use it and then return it. Your restocking fee would be close to what you'd pay to rent it anyway. Good luck. renee_marie
Someone posted this link here before on how to build your own ring light: Ring light instructions here
Good luck! If you attempt it, let us know how it goes. :)
pcm__
ended up using a medium softbox up high and diffused fill to the left. Looks pretty good. Minimal catch lights. Client was happy. Thanks I'll try a ringlight next time when I can practice with it!
