j.ed_baker
I have a Minolta mount 28-70 zoom that was sold through Sears. The problem is the aperature has become slow to operate. I suspect oil on the blades. Does anyone know who manufactured this lens and/or how to best disassemble for cleaning? Thanks
mtk
Hi Ed...most likely Vivitar. I hate to be blunt....time for a new lens. Ebay or KEH.com....These lenses quite simply are so inexpensive it doesn't pay to have it reparied. I just checked KEH.com and they have a misc brand bargain used for 29.00, a Soligor for 35.00, and a Vivitar for 49.00. Nice thing about KEH is warranty and only 10.00 Shipping. The problem with taking apart a zoom lens vs a prime to try to clean it is that it is much more mechanically complicated. On the other hand if you accept that it can't be fixed economically, get a 12 pack of your favorite adult beverage and take it apart and learn how it works! Have fun! scott_lewis3
Beer and screwdrivers the best way to fix cheap hard ware. I have a cheap sigma standard zoom in 100000000 pieces in a box if you want to put it back together ;)
