charles_stobbs3
See "Everything Else" forum . On Feb. 26 I started posting on a guide book which I found in my local library. It is a quick overview of photography today and has chapters which may be useful.
sionnac
"Black and White Photography: A Basic Manual" by Horenstein - I think it is in its third edition.
JosvanEekelen
Way back in the early 80-s I liked the books by John Hedgecoe, I recently saw one in a bookstore so you have the choice of buying a new one or 2nd hand. In addition to that I see lots of photography books in cheap bookstores (In the Netherlands, in the Dutch language). Most of these books were translated from English, so I assume that these are for sale in other countries as well, albeit perhaps at a higher price. don_e
You may be an amateur but that doesn't say anything about your skill level, or what kinds of equipment you use. If you need basic information, I'd recommend browsing the information here: http://www.kodak.com/eknec/PageQuerier.jhtml?pq-path=39&pq-locale=en_US I'd also recommend clicking on the 'Learning' tab on this page and browsing the articles. If you need something more adanced or on a specific topic, let us know.
stormchaser
The New Manual of Photography by John Hedgecoe. For a beginner, it's got everything you'll need on everything you'll want to do.
machts gut
In german I would recommend the books of Andreas Feininger. As he lived in America most of his life time I guess the books may also be available in english. The technical aspects are in some regards out of date, but on composition you won't find anything better IMO. Stefan
