ben_hutcherson
The screen protector on my D800 is in bad shape(a couple of cracks and some abrasions), and my D600 doesn't have one at all. I've put genuine Nikon protectors on older cameras(I came into a bunch for both D200s and D300s, and went through and replaced all of mine) and they are quite a nice product. Unless I happen to catch newer ones for $1 each on a "table sale" at the local store, though, the prices can be eye-popping for genuine Nikon ones. Of course, generic ones abound on Ebay. What do you all think in general? Do you buy Nikon, generic, or go "naked"? On one hand, I hate to take a $1K camera(D800) or $600 camera(D600) and not protect it or spoil the excellent screen with a less-than-great 3rd party one, but at the same time $30 for a genuine Nikon protector is hard to swallow. chulster
I like the thin glass protectors like these on Amazon. Cheap, clear, and scratch-resistant. You almost can't tell it's there.
Ed_Ingold
The snap-on Nikon screen protectors were not very reliable. I've lost them a couple of times, and they are plastic, which scratches easily. Now I use Gorilla Glass protectors, which cost under $7 on Amazon. There are also extremely tough plastic films which protect just as well against scratches, although perhaps not as well against impact.
heimbrandt
If you like the one that Nikon ships, by all means, get another one. I prefer a thin glass protector and there are offerings that are great, Gorilla Glass is one to look for. I have found them on eBay.

Ed_Ingold
The Leica M9P had a sapphire LCD cover, 9/10ths as hard as diamond (on the Mohs scale). I bought mine use, and it had a scratch in it.
