bryan_simpson
Hello, I am new to Large Format, and have just received a Cambo camera and Schneider Lens as a gift. The question I have is, what is the "X - M" setting on the Schneider lens? The lens is a 210mm 5.6, and says symmar-s on the side. Thanks for help in advance. michael_briggs2
The "X / M" setting will be on the shutter -- this sets the mode of synching to flash: X for electronic flash, M for flashbulb.

If you are curious, you can date your lens using the table at http://www.schneideroptics.com/info/age_of_lenses/.
ronald_moravec1
m-sync starts the bulb burning early so it is at peak when the shutter opens. If you connect electronic flash to m, it will fire early and be over by the time the shutter opens.
bob.
You have a learning curve ahead - suddenly being dropped into the LF deep end! Pop along to www.largeformatphotography.info and do some reading. Your local library should have a book or two. Cheers,
murrayatuptowngallery
So can I extrapolate that using an electronic flash with older cameras that had 'unspecified' flash contacts, say for an accessory flashbulb gun, will very likely have flash sync problems? Only option for non-adjustable shutter then might be B + manual flash ignition? I guess this limits subject matter in such a case. Murray
