rescue902
Howdy, I have been shooting slides for awhile now and would like to have my favorite exposures scanned onto a CD for viewing on my computer and to email, etc. I want to use A and I because of their reputation, but has anyone used them for this purpose? What type of scan did you use? The basic scan is three dollars a slide, does anyone know the quality of this scan? I am new to scanning so any insight would be appreciated. Thank you!Jason
greg_campbell1
$3 a pop sounds a bit high. For that price, I'd expect full cropping, color correction, and maybe even some minor touching up of scratches and whatnot. I can't find A and I's site, and have never used their services, so can't offer any feedback about them. FWIW, I've done a few hundred scans for people with a desktop slide scanner. When I charge, I start at 1$ per slide for a 24/48bit, 4000 dpi scan, plus a dollar per CD. Touch-up can take lots of time and I quickly start charging by the hour. -Greg
tom_herman1
Depending on your # of slides, it may also be cost effective to buy a film scanner (not flat bed). You could always sell it on Ebay for maybe 1/3 - 1/2 of original purchase price. Slide scanning is very time consuming, so factor that in.
johnclinch
very time consuming but rewarding and quite an education
gene_brewer1
I use A&I for all my 35mm E6 and 6x6 E6 and C41 processing. I had some scans done a bit ago from 35mm and 120 C41 negs. These were done by A&I's Frontier scanner. Although the were good scans, they aren't very high res so print size will be a limitation. Be sure and verify the scanning device. As others have said, at $3 a slide, I would expect high res quality scans. Gene
