brandonhamilton
I know the 80 doesn't do i-ttl, but will the camera and flash still be able to work together using ttl at all to determine a correct exposure? Or will the flash have to be run on manual? Thanks all. -brandon
dave_dube
At somepoint I acquired an SB-80DX, I've only used it as a backlight. I must have paid about $25 for it and that's about what I feel it's worth.
eric friedemann
Brandon, if you're going to drop $4K on a D2X, go the extra yard and buy an SB-800 for $290 after rebate. The i-TTL is worth the price of admission.<div></div>
vgoklani
make that $270 after rebate http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home? O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=427517&is=USA&addedTroughType=search
ravi_swamy
You should be able to set the flash in non-TTL "A" mode and have the flash automatically control the flash exposure. The SB-80 may support the older D-TTL mode that most people said worked poorly. I've got an SB-800 and I love i-TTL except for the people who always blink from the preflashes but as others said, if you've got the money for a D2X then you have the money for an SB-600 or SB-800. Jerry_
$2,600.00 for one thing. If you go with a D50 body, you can save all the money that would cost you in buying a D2X body. Then it would not matter much if you experimented with the SB-80 speedlight....which would would with either the D50 or the D2X in 'A' mode. You would have no i-TTL flash modes with your camera. gib
one of the reasons I really hate Nikon is that I was stupid enough to buy a SB-80DX new for a lot more than $30 - it's only claim to fame - less expensive battery use.....and was in a matter of months out of production... one of the reasons I am in no rush to buy a Nikon DSLR
myount777
WJ Gibson, with your quality of photos, do you really need a Nikon DSLR? P.S. Nice work
bernard_frank
No i-TTL, but you can get D-TTL matrix and an excellent A mode.
