mskovacs
I visited historic Niagara-on-the-Lake with my wife and had my Rolleiflex in tow. Some Velvia 50 shots on a bright overcast day, all handheld. If you find yourself at Niagara Falls and have a wife that enjoys boutiques and crafts, its a worthwhile trip if the crowds are low.
Rolleiflex 2.8E - scroll back to the earlier pages if you missed them. summitar
Nice shots, Mike! Niagara-on-the-Lake (NOTL) is billed as "Canada's prettiest village." I was born and raised in Niagara Falls, NY and NOTL is a welcome relief from the depressing slums of NF,NY and the tawdry wax museums and casinos of NF, Ont. If in the area, be sure to visit Fort Niagara, built by the French in the early 1700s. It is in NY and directly across the river from NOTL and Fort George, Ont. And, of course, gaze upon the magnificent falls. It pains me to say that the best views are on the Canadian side. Just kidding. The Canadians had the widsom and foresight to make their side of the Niagara River public property from lake to lake, with many parks and golf courses and sight seeing vistas. The American side, above the falls, is mostly rusted out, abondoned chemical factories (remember Love Canal?). Below the falls, from Lewiston north, it is mostly mostly attractive private homes along the river bank. Thanks for the memories. Mike.
jordan_w.
Great pictures Mike. Niagara-on-the-Lake is nice, but I find it pretty touristy... that old pharmacy (your last picture) certainly is interesting, though.
alex_lofquist
Niagara-on-the-Lake is one of those "undiscovered" places that have only recently become popular. Not to be missed is the annual Shaw Festival. A great venue!
rich815
Wow. Looks like Disney World.
mskovacs
It may have been Disney Land if we hadn't repulsed the American infidels back in 1812 and set the torch to Washington DC ;) Relations have mildly improved since then :p
gib
in the fourth shot, the statue is of GBS George Bernard Shaw, Irish playwright, and the guy they named the festival after. if you get there, Fort George is on the edge of town. worth a look. if you have the drama bug, a combo of shows at the Shaw Festival and then a little further drive up to Stratford, Ont. and the Stratford Shakespearean Festival might feed it. both festivals put on plays by playwrights other than Bernard and Will. summitar
Hey Mike, I just may have to do a number on Brock's monument on my next visit. The American Infidel (If we had won, you would have your bars open on Sundays)
