grapegeek
I've got a Ricohflex that takes really sharp pictures, but I have problems seeing the focusing screen. It seems a little dim to me. I've not handled any of the other good TLRs. Can anyone tell me how the Ricohflex stacks up against some of the better TLRs for focusing.
john_shriver
Having the focusing screen replaced with a better one, with fresnel, and split image focusing aid, is simple. Rick Oleson had a bunch manufactured, replacing them may be do-it-yourself (depends on your mechanical intuition level, and whether it would require recalibrating focus), or you can have a camera repair person put the new screen in.
Also, the front-silvered mirror may be going. Again, it can be replaced.
However, in general, the larger the focusing screen, the dimmer it is. Same number of photons, spread over more space.
martin_dake
I have a Super Richoflex and the focusing screen is darker than my Yashicamat 124.
But, I don't find it too difficult to use in bright situations. When the light is not good it very dark especially around the edges.
Many times I use the little pop up magnifier as I find it helps.
