hans_beckert
Who does really good work on SL2, or should I just send it to Leica?
jay_.
Where are you? DAG is fantastic of course, but there's also Kinderman in Toronto, who are once again the official Leica agency. Their chief tech, Gerry Smith, is a wiz. He took a lot of time once explaining to me in intricate detail about the flawed design of the SL2 shutter which can be adjusted but lasts only temporarily, so he is extremely knowlegdeable about that camera as well (DAG also is aware of the shutter fault). hans_beckert
I have never had a shutter fault until just now. The slow speeds are simply not working.
jay_.
The shutter fault affects the high speeds. After the camera has sat for a few hours the first shot (sometimes two)at speeds 1/500-1/2000 (on some cameras as low as 1/250) fire way too fast (the second curtain catches up with the first too soon). If your slow speeds are sticking it's just a routine CLA in order.
hans_beckert
Well, the slow speeds are simply not engaging. They all go off at 1/30 or so, even the 1 sec speed!
andy m.
I don't know much about SL2s, but it sounds like your slow speed escapement has disengaged. This happened to my M2 and was a simple fix, but annoying that it happened in the first place.
hans_beckert
Andy: Yes, because the gear sounds still occur as I move the dial...
