elmroc
Hello fellow sports shooters.
I'm looking for information on what other sports photographers use to protect the cameras and lenses that are setup remotely at sports venues.
For example, a camera setup on top of a soccer goal, or lacrosse goal, or mounted on a goal post of a football field. I would think photogrpahers mount their cameras inside of some protective device.
I would like to do some setups like this, but am leary of doing so without any kind of protection. My plan is to fire the remote camera with a pocket wizard.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
farski
other than rain covers, you would probably be surprised at how unprotected most remotes are. If you think about a soccer goal, you're probably getting maybe two or three shots in for a game, and the chances that ones of them is going to make major contact with the camera at speed is pretty low. I'm not sure I've ever seen a remote on a lax goal, since it's not really that high, and there are players all around it all game, might not be safe for the camera or the players. Goal post is probably also a very low probability of getting hit, and you just have to take your chances I suppose.

(blatently ripped from google search:)

kjwesphotos
From my experience shooting high school sports in Texas,I've NEVER seen a remote on a football goalpost. Besides, it is too easy to just stand there yourself anyway. A remote is rare in HS basketball and usually center court over the stands/bleachers. Refs are not in the mood to get creative with PJs. Personally, I just sit on the floor behind a basket and wait for them to come to me...
wes
www.kjwesphotos.com
