red dot. dead pixel?

I notice that my 10D has a red dot in every picture at the same

position. I was wondering if it is a dead pixel or just dust.

 

From my understanding, dust appears as black dot. I wonder what this

red dot is.

 

If it is a dead pixel what can i do with it?

It's a stuck pixel and the only thing you can do with it is clone it out or ignore it.

 

Please don't attach large images to your posts. It's likely to get them removed from the forum. Keep them under 511 pixels wide.

Indeed it is a stuck pixel - they are a fact of life with digital cameras. Some cameras have them and some don't. Annoyingly of the several digital cameras I have had the only one to have it is a 1Ds II. Most of the time I don't even see it in my images and rarely when I do it's easy enough to clone it out.

 

I was momentarily upset when I first saw it but it did pass!

It happens on my 10D too, when the shutter speed is set to longer than 1-2 seconds. I have about 3 of those. but on faster shutter speeds, I don't see them. It's not a defect, but that's just how it is.
