red cast on monitor for B&W

Recommended Posts

In both Nikon Picture Project and Lightroom, I have a red cast to images that I

have converted to grayscale and adjusted in Lightroom AND images that were shot

in B&W mode on my D200. I cannot eliminate the red cast with any combination of

adjustments in Lightroom. Any help would be appreciated.

Well, my first guess would be that it's your monitor guns. Is your monitor hardware calibrated? If it is, it may be that it's calibrated for a much warmer light source than what you are actually viewing in, i.e. your monitor is at 5000K when your normal viewing conditions might be in noon light in the north, or roughly 7500K.

Aaron, thanks for the reply. That's what I don't get. My front page image looks neutral. It was a b&w print scanned and uploaded. It looks fine on my monitor. When I take a picture in b&w mode on the D200, it looks neutral on the CAMERA monitor. But, when I import it into Lightroom or Nikon Picture project or Nikon view, the image has a red cast that I cannot eliminate.
