Rebel XT compatible features with Canon 550

I ready to get a digital SLR.....I have a Canon Powershot 1 and G3.

I also have a Canon 550 flash thet works just fine for my needs.

I know the 550 has fewer features than the newer 580.....but will a

550 work OK on the Rebel XT...or should I save a few $$$$$ and find

a older 6mp Digital Rebel.

The 550EX doesn't really have "fewer features" than the 580EX. The featureset is the same. But the 580EX is a new design, with new controls, slightly higher power, slightly faster recycle times, and some white balance communication between camera and body.

 

The 550EX works perfectly fine on the Rebel XT. I use my XT with the 550EX. All EX flashes are compatible with Canon's newer E-TTL2. Definitely get a Rebel XT. The differences between the DR XT and the original DR are significant.

Thanks......The rebel XT seems to focus faster.......and take less time to process the image.....but my experience has only been at the counter of a few camera stores.....looks like the XT will be a good choice for my needs.
