bill koenig
In Photo Shop CS3 the use of guide lines to make a template is very useful, but is there a way to make them printable? I've searched high and low on the net, as well as PS help, looked through Martin Evening's book, ect and have come up with nothing. Is there a way to create a line and have snap to a guide line? I've tried using a single row selection, but couldn't get this to work either. There must be a way, but after working with Photo shop for over two years as a hobbyist, my skills are still lacking. Thanks for any help.
larry_ashley
I think you are almost there....Try the single row selection, then use "stroke" under the Edit menu. Use zero's for the RGB values to make sure you get black. Is that what you are looking for?

If you want to see printed lines, just create some lines on a layer using the pencil or line tool set to a contrasting color. Move them into place using snap-to-guides. Or, you could do a screen grab with the guides visible.</p> <p><i>"Is there a way to create a line and have snap to a guide line? Move your lines near the guides and they will snap into place. For example, I have a ball shape on a layer (surrounded by transparency). I can move the ball and it will snap into place once it nears the guides, as in the following image:</p> <p><img src="http://upload.pbase.com/image/103984020/original.jpg"></p>
bill koenig
Larry, Here is what worked. I'm making business cards for my Photography hobby. First I made the text on a 3.5x2 blank space. Then I made a 8.5x11 blank space. Then using guide lines, I made grid to get 10 3.5x2 boxes, then I pasted the text into each rectangle, it snapped in perfectly centered. Next. I used the single row selection tool, in strokes set that to one pixel, then selected each of the guide lines one at a time, then, edit, fill, I used a light yellow, and then deselect. I did this for each guide line. At one pixel, you can't really see them, but they are there. In print preview in PS you can see them there. All I'm using these lines for, is a guide for the paper cutter. They printed perfectly. I'm not sure if this is the best way to do this, but it worked for me. BTW after setting the pixel size in strokes, you need to use "fill" of you don't get any thing. and changing the pixel size you can change the line thickness. ted_springer
You can use the line option in the shape tool to do that.
larry_ashley
Ah, business cards. You can try stroking the 3.5x2 (select all, stroke at one pixel wide on the INSIDE), then drop that into the 8.5x11. Duplicate that layer, then move 'em around. They should snap to each other and you don't have to make a bunch of guides. There are probably 4 or 5 other ways to do this in PS, but thats how I would run it. Happy trimming!
