Quantum Q-Flash bulb... OK to touch?

<p>I have always previously avoided touching my Quantum Q-Flash bulb for fear that it could cause the glass to shatter (ala a quartz bulb). While working in the dark recently without realizing it at first, I grabbed the bulb with my hands. Should I clean the glass thoroughly? Is there a danger of the bulb shattering when used next?<br /><br />Thanks,<br />Paul</p>

<p>Depends... are you referring to the glass envelope outside of the actual flash tube or modeling lamp? I'd expect that touching the outer glass wouldn't be much of a problem - it won't see the the steady-state temps of the modeling lamp or the very high transient temps of the flashtube.</p>

<p>As Timothy says--not to worry about touching the outer glass tube--your flash tube isn't going to shatter, but I would keep the tubes as clean as possible anyway.</p>

<p>Clean is good, as stated. I also use the UV coated tube and that has a plastic film on the outside.</p>

<p>Thanks for the tips... I'll clean it before using again. I never touch the bulb normally, but working in the dark is a real challenge.</p>
