billballardphotography
I'm trying to locate push-processing times/temps for Agfa APX 400 using D76. Any suggestions as to where I could find this information? I've found nothing specific enough here on Photo.net and nothing at all in the data sheets on Agfa's website. Thanks in advance! john_stockdale2
Agfa APX 400 is usually described as slower and grainier than the other 400 films, and hence is not a good choice for pushing unless you want huge grain. If you have some that was underexposed, I suppose the old rule of thumb of plus 40% dev time would get you in the ballpark.
frank.schifano
Take a look at http://www.digitaltruth.com in "The Massive Dev Chart." There's not much there, but there is something. It's probably not a good idea unless you are trying to salvage something you accidentally underexposed. You might want to try some Diafine developer that's supposed to give you a real increase in true film speed. The specs for Agfa APX 400 are not encouraging though. The claim is that you can get EI 1600 from Tri-X with this developer, but only EI 500 from APX 400.
mattias_tidlund
Here is an excerpt from a print made from APX 400 rated at 800 and developed in Paterson Acutol (not the best choice of developer).<div></div>
andrew_hull
Try some Diafine. Shoot at 800 and there is still little grain.
nate_ross
While I haven't pushed it, I was surprised when I developed and printed my first roll, as everyone has told me it's a fairly grainy film. However, the negatives from my first roll have a finer grain than most _100_ speed films I have used. Sadly I don't have any scans yet, but soon I will, and I'll link one as an example. I would feel confident in pushing this film moreso than in pushing hp5, which I HAVE done.. Anyway, good luck!
