corrie sweiger
I just got this message when opening photoshop cs. Its never happened before. "memory could not be allocated for the activation process. Please close all applications and try again". Well, i did. I tried shutting down, restarting the computer. My husband did a restore to 3 weeks ago..didnt fix a thing. Im no computer wiz-so im kind of lost. I have no clue what to do..i know my hubby will be able to figure it out eventually, but he wont be home for quite a while and I really have some work i need to do! Just thought i'd ask on here and see if it's much more simple than what im making it out to be! Do i have to reinstall it?
steven_clark
Windows or Mac? If windows it sounds like you may be low on disk space for virtual memory, and/or your memory use settings may be too high in Photoshop.
jtk
If PC, empty Recycle Bin and also do Disc Cleanup on C drive. You may want more ram...at least 1G for CS2...less will obviously work, but painfully.
corrie sweiger
Sorry, its windows. And just regular cs, not cs2. I may need more ram, but i dont understand why it wouldnt work now, when it a couple days ago. I'd been using it for over a year. I dont understand why it would just "stop". (and i dont really have anything else that i've added that would be taking up any memory...) SO confusing!
corrie sweiger
sorry, that should read "when it worked fine a couple days ago.."
carl_bretteville
I seem to remember in the back of my mind that I've seen a blurb from Adobe about this. Check their support site for technical documents on PSCS. - Carl
jtk
Corrie, it saves up all the mistakes we make and things we think we deleted. You have to clean it out every now and then.
corrie sweiger
John, this may sound INCREDIBLY stupid, but how do i go about doing that?
EricM
which disc is your operating system on and which disc is your scratch disc using?
jtk
Corrie, click on start, look for "Disc Cleanup," click on that...it'll give you choices of drive to clean up...be sure Temporary Internet File and Recycle Bin are both checked, then click OK. There are adjustments you probably need to make, but this will probably get you going again. You'll probably have to do this routine frequently until you sort things out and/or get more ram memory. I'd say more, but I'm at the limit of my own skills.
yongbo
If you didn't activate the product, that's the problem. You can download the tryout version of PS CS2 to get you work done, and fix the CS later. http://www.adobe.com/products/tryadobe/main.jsp
jtk
Yongbo, I mistakenly said CS2...Corrie said CS...I doubt there's an activation problem.

nana_nana1
I had the same problem, and I found the clue - it was nothing to do with memory and so on, I had just typed the wrong serial number while installing, and Photoshop had said nothing about it. So try to reinstall and check the sn carefully, it might help. Good luck:)
