Production year of 80mm Planar (Hasselblad)

Anybody with a "Hasselblad Compendium", or other source, care to date a

recently acquired 80mm chrome lens for me?

 

I understand there is reference in that work to serial number blocks for "C"

and "CT" lenses.

 

Mine appears to be multicoated as I see green reflections deep in it in

addition to the normal blue/magenta colored ones.

 

The serial number is 584XXXX.

 

Any assistance is appreciated.

It is not the serial number you need. It is the four character code on the inside of the barrel.

Focus the lens to its closest setting and look inside the lens mount. You should be able to

see three or four numbers in red. The first one or two digits is the year, but you need to ad

that to 1957, when production started. The last two digits are the month. So 1108 would be

August 1968.

Nordin doesn't list a 584xxxx for the 80mm. Looking at the 80mm serial number chart it should be a 1975 or 1976 and it would be T*. Is it marked T*?

Anthony it was a typo...the number is 504XXXX with no "T".

504xxxx is 1970, which is before T* coatings were introduced.
