edwardchen
I just came back from photo shoot for a client. After I plug into the computer and i saw two folders: two folder with exactly same name : DCIM! The problem is I can not open one of the folder! The first DCIM contains folder 102ND100 which are my secong session with my client. But the second DCIM contains 101ND100 can't be clickable! It won't open. I hoover the mouse on top of it and I right-click property the folder and it only says 161 kb! It is definily almost 700 MB worth of 80 pics of NEF files. I don't know why the camera creates two folders? Story:I first shot about 80 NEF files. Then we took a break. Then we wanted to see the results so we try to plug in to his computer. But then his computer is unable to read the NEF. So then we unplug and continue shooting. I am not awared that the camera creates the second folder until now. What happened here? Now, i checked the camera. The files are all in there. But now they are separated into two folders. The first session is in folder 101ND100. The the second session 102ND100. But the real problem is my computer/windows can't read the 101ND100!I am not try to be panicked here but I am. I have to do all over again. and it was a whole day work. Please please advise..... Peter_in_PA
If you know someone with a Mac and you're on Windows, see if they can read your files. Or visa versa...
edwardchen
Peter, if my windows can't read (not even clickable) whay do you think mac can? the folder (101ND100) is not even clickable. Can you elaborate please?
ronald_moravec1
Try with picture Pro that came with the camera. I would recreate the problem on another card and work with that. Maybe his computer reformatted the card in some manner and that is what is causing the problem. I always make JPEGS at the same time as they take up very little space and they seem to open anywhere. Peter_in_PA
Edward, I don't know why, but I've experienced cases where a mac could read files a PC couldn't and vice versa. Doesn't make sense, I know, but I've experienced it.
elliot1
If everything you try fails, take the disk back to your client's computer and see if you can access the files from his machine. If so, you can burn them to a CD. This may also work the what Peter recommended (using a Mac).
markd2
Edward: the Mac has a different implementation of the code that reads file systems. Things that cause windows problems, the Mac (or Linux) can usually read. And vice-versa. We're still very much in the stone knives and bear skin stage of things, so these odd behaviors do happen. john_mitchell7
This might help, maybe not. Using Windows Explorer determine which drive the CF card is. e.g. F: Go to the command line level of windows like this: START >> Accessories >> Command Prompt You should see at least c: Type in the drive name. e.g. F: <return> You should see the drive letter plus :\> e.g. F:\> Type in dir <return> You will see a list of the files and directories. Change to the directory you want like this: cd (directory name) e.g. cd DCIM Type in dir <return> Now you should see both 101ND100 and 102ND100. If you see these two, then you are getting further. If not, then this has not helped. Good Luck!
wing8
Can you access these files from an application?
.th
if nothing else works you might try a file recovery program to read the card, i've been using the sandisk version (think it's called rescue pro, or something in thad direction). lexar has something similar i believe.. rffffffff
there is a program called rescue pro that comes with many sandisk extreme CF cards... its probably your best bet... the biggest thing to do (or not do) is dont write anything else to that card AT ALL. rescue pro will almost undoubtably (well howabout likely) fix it. john_mitchell7
The Lexar program is named Lexar Media Image Rescue 2.
edwardchen
Hey thank you guys for the responds!!...as for the files..they are recovered. My client's computer has virus so my camera is infected. My antivirus did detect the virus and eliminite it. I don;t know if this did something weird. But finally i used Picture Project to transfer directly from the camera. Yeah...Nikon Capture and Nikon view failed. I tried to do the START and RUN from windows..but it failed too. I am just sooo glad they are all recovered.
