Pro hosted web site VS my own

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,
what do you think of sites like http://www.behance.net/prosite or http://cargocollective.com/ for creating your photography business and portfolio.
The reason I am thinking of moving to one of these is, of course, ease of use. I don't want to have to deal with HTML everytime I have new work to put up, even though I am alright at it. I just want to simply hit a few upload buttons, and poof, the pics are sharp, presented simply and consistently.
They are for $9-11 a month. I am currently paying $10 to HostGator for space.
The only downside to leaving Host Gator would be I can't have multiple sites for just $10 a month. Currently I have a band site and my photo site.
Let me know what you think, or if you have other suggestions.

Thank you,
Rob

I have my own web builded on word-press base. Its very simple and very basic, but it fits my needs and its flexible

Behance network is new form me, but it looks interesting. Maybe you should check Zenfolio, you can sell your pictures there. One level more expensive solution is Photoshelter

Have you ever tried setting up a word-press site on your hostgator hosting?
If you can get that working, it's probably the cheapest and the most flexible. I've worked on many websites, and at this point, I say steer clear from html. Word-press makes things so easy, and is completely customizable.
Google "Free wordpress photography themes" and find some good ones that do everything behnace and cargo collective do. Granted you're the price they charge is pretty cheap, but if you're looking to save money, get a $7.96 hostgator "Baby Plan" hosting package, and host as many sites as you want. Since you have unlimited domains, you can even host your friend's sites for them, charge them a couple bucks if they're not good friends!
