Printing no bigger than 16x20

<p>I am debating between the Nikon D700 and the Canon 5D Mark II.<br>

I would be using it for some low light, but not dark.<br>

I will only be printing up to 16x20<br>

I prefer primes over zooms.</p>

<p>Only one thing to do. Handle both cameras with a representative lens in place. They both work well, both lens lines are excellent, both cameras will make quality larger than 16x images. Like you've said, you've read tons of threads, you need to make the final decision. You won't go wrong either way so don't worry about it.</p>

<p>Much depends on what you've already used. As John says, either will be fine once you learn how to use it.</p>

<p>I'd be willing to bet that you <em>would</em> be able to see the difference in resolution of the 5D II over the D700 though at 16x20.</p>

<p>At this price point you could rent both + couple of lenses, post process the shots in your way and make some test prints. Only way to know for sure.</p>

<p>I doubt resolution would make much difference between the two. At 16x20 camera technique and lens used would show the most difference. I would go with the D700. You might want to read some of the Lumisous Landscape experiences with the Canon.</p>

<p>For a 16x20, the 5DmkII will produce a markedly more detailed print.</p>

<p>The resolution difference between the two cameras is not trivial. Matters of technique and optics are constants that should be factored out for all intent and purposes.</p>

<p>You are looking at investing several thousand dollars either way for a body and some lenses. I second the recommendation to take your time, rent each body with at least two good lenses, see how they feel and work for you.</p>
