norman_valentine
I use an Epson Stylus 1200 to make black and white prints using just the black ink. When I print large areas of plain tone, eg. sky. I find bands across the print approx 10mm wide (on an A4 print) where the grain, pixels, dots ( I don't know how to describe it) don't register correctly. See the attached pic. Does anybody recognise this problem? Is there a fix? Or should I dump the printe?

brad_smith8
And you're sure there's absolutely no color tone in the original or in the printer settings?
patricklavoie
normal if you use the black only method.

1_make sure the head are clean.

2_dont use the high speed feature if you have one ON.

3_print at a higher resolution if youre printer supported it, like 2880.
norman_valentine
Brad there is no colour, it is a scan from a black and white negative. The fault is not the scan I have checked the image at high magnification.
Patrick, as far as I know the heads are clean, I have gone through a head clean recently. The printer is set on the highest quality not speed. As far as I know I am printing at the highest resolution. Any other ideas?
patricklavoie
turn your image upside down and see if the problem still at the same place, or always on the right corner..then whe can see if the problem reside in the images itself or in the printer.
philfx
I like Patrick's suggestion. What file format is the scan?
