presentation ideas

Recommended Posts

I have been working as an assistant and a second shooter for a year

now. I still want to work for other people for anouther year before

starting a full time business. However, in the meantime when

oppertunities arrive I would like to have work to present that looks

profesional. I have twenty quality 8x10s printed up. But now I

dont know what to do with them, I want to protect them. Or maybe

develop some kind of book. Any ideas?

the website isnt the issue, what do I do with the prints ? Should I make an album of some sorts, is there a presentation book I should buy, does anyone laminate prints? What do I show someone in person? I have been doing all this shooting, I have all these digital files, what can I do with them to make a nice presentation

You say you have been assisting and second-shooting. Perhaps your next step is to join the boss for a consultation. The questions are basically remedial.

- use an album like that which will be used by the B&G
- Laminate, no, but mounted prints with a protective coating, yes
- If mounted, then a nice presentation box
- How you perceive professional presentation is up to you
- Nice thing about prints, you can always get reprints

You're on the right path by way of slowly building your portfolio and being patient. Sounds like there's still a lot to learn grasshopper.

Art Leather produces an Imount album in an 8x10 style but they all need to be portrait or landscape format to view properly. Very inexpensive and looks nice, would suggest the photo cutout cover then you can add an image with text via PS. Or, go with the Reversable Mezzo album which has inserts which can be in either the vertical or horizontal format. Since it is a sample for your studio, you can have the studio name imprinted and get the book at half cost. You can also cull the 8x10s, add some, remove, etc....

Check out www.michelcompany.com

Personally I prefer the Renaissance Library Bound Album to use as a sample for starters... It is a better quality book with no mylar or

irregular and frayed glue jobs that I saw with Art Leather. Plus,

the BIG plus is that when you order from Michel Company, you'll get

your order in three days. Art Leather is slow and they make mistakes

all the time. Customer service is also much better..

If you want a really nice and a little more pricey presentation - check out www.seldex.com.au - You can now order from them direct.

3-4 weeks for delivery though as Art Leather is the shipper.
