POW - 7/26/09

It looks like no one has started a POW as of yet. It seems whenever I start one, someone else does as well. I have been away on holiday to the northeastern point of the US - Bar Harbor, Maine / Acadia National Park. I will be wading through a couple of thousand images and won't bore you with them all. Here are a couple of them:

The Harbor Itself
Cadillac Mountain / Highest Peak on Mount Desert Island / the first point of the US to see daylight each day, so they say.

On Jordan Pond

I try to reserve comments until later in the week if I have the time, but I cannot hold off telling Nick S. that Grandpa's Boat is one helluva shot. Dreamy but real. Nice work.

This was an active shooting week: Seattle street shots, hummingbirds, and even a few flowers.

This sign was for a new Mexican more-than-taco trailer that opened near my office. I was outside shooting a challenging scene for a work-in-progress, and had to walk around the "neighborhood" to clear my head. And the sign and the surrounding textures broke through my fog.

One muggy afternoon (for here) we had diffused light caused by a low cloud layer. Good enough to pop some colors without glare.

I went to Appenzell, Mt. Hohenkasten and the cheese factory in Stein and the chocolate factory Maestrani in Flawil again but took the SMC Takumar 85mm and 28mm on the *istD with me this time. Using some chocoloate paper I tried the aluminium foil trick to enable focus confirmation on the *istD for M42 lenses but had no luck, gladly the 28mm at F8 and around 3 meters is nearly fool proof DOF wise for landscapes. The light is never right on a bus mountain tour but I show you two samples with the SMC 28mm and an extra painting from Zurich with the FA 50mm macro on the K10D.

I haven't really done any 'personal photography' for a few months. These guys were fun to work with we found an old car by a beat up house to take a few shots. Fortunately the car was open. Kind fun to take a few grittier shots will doing this.

Some classic shots here, folks.
Bob - Bar Harbor, what a great place, can't wait to get back there. Wonderful shots!
Nick - I agree with Michael, Grandpa's boat is very nice.
Justin - Caney. Another wonderful shot of a dog we only know through your pictures, but know him we do.
Jeremiah - nice family shots. I have been working on the same thing with not much success.
Peter - a '67 Chevy Bel Air! Oh boy, what memories. Nice pic!
I am going to break the rules this week and post three. I finally got out and spent some quality time with my camera this week. I think my favorite of the week was the shot from high atop the Ben Franklin bridge that I posted in Javier recent post. Here are three others.

00U2n5-158455584.jpg.916b7b29aaf652aa4345ae69590c0603.jpg

These are two more photos from our camping trip to Algonquin Park a few weeks ago. The first is of the kids on the Whiskey Rapids trail. Tripod mounted K200D, 18-55mm kit lens, f/27, ISO100, 0.7 sec to draw out the water flow. I little blur from the breeze in the bushes and on the kids (what kids can sit still for 0.7 sec’s?).

00U2np-158461584.JPG.b903a50b884682452cc540b1e618b7b3.JPG

Religion, I'd tend to agree with the interpretation I think you are offering. Would be interesting to see this photo posted/displayed in other arenas, then sit back and watch/listen to the thoughts/arguements/fireworks. It stirs the mind, no doubt.

Like Bob, I spent a few days on holiday this week and have a few thousand images to go through. My time was spent in Carefree Arizona, and I never knew the desert could be so beautiful. I think I have some nice sunrises and sunsets, and tons of cactus shots of course, but haven't edited them yet, so I post a couple LE lightning shots from the first night.. (One thing is for sure, spending that whole trip with my 18-55mm kit lens on sure made me want to buy a better WA lens! My goal is to try and figure out a way to get one before I head back to this same spot in the fall...)
