POTW 1/12/2014

<p>I always get confused with the formatting of dates, but I think I got that one right. For me it would normally be 12/1/2014 or 2014-01-12.<br>

We spent the past week on a farm called Poplar Grove in the Karoo Region of South Africa. This is a large semi-arid area occupying a large part of the interior of the country.<br>

Photographically, this was as much getting to grips with the K-3, as it was an opportunity to photograph one of my favourite parts of the country.<br>

I tried to photograph the aurora which was supposed to be visible in Colorado last week. I got up at 4:00 one morning and went out to a nice dark location, set up, and shot. No aurora. But fortunately I didn't come home empty handed. <br>

K-5 & DA 15, 103 exposures (over about an hour) stacked.<br>

It was nice once the sun came up too. I was afraid the formation called The Castles would never emerge from the could bank, but it just peek out a little before being engulfed again.<br>

Those storms made for some great powder skiing. We even got a rare sunny powder day at Crested Butte!<br>

<p>Henk- I like that first shot! The stars look great and the windmill's movement adds a nice touch.</p>
