Posting photos - need URL now?

Discussion in 'Photo.net Site Help' started by pnomanWV, Oct 21, 2020.

  1. Greetings. I joined photo.net earlier this summer and have enjoyed participating in the "No Words" thread. However, start a few weeks ago, if I click to add a photo in a reply, it gives me a popup for URL of photo rather than the drag/drop box or upload. Am I missing something?

I can create a folder on my 1and1 account and upload photos via FTP to that and link, but it's much more time-consuming.

    Thank you for your help.

  2. Can you post a screenshot?

  3. It allowed me to upload as usual in this thread, but this is what I get when I try on the No Words thread.

    Thanks for your help.

  4. Are you running osX? And is so, did you upgrade the OS recently?

Edit: No idea why this forum is OK but NW isnโ€™t

  5. SON OF A GUN!!! As soon as I posted the previous photo, I went back to the No Words thread and it is working for me again! (Like taking your car in to the shop and it suddenly stops making that strange noise. Haha!

Windows 7 Home Premium and Chrome.

It was showing me that URL popup for the past 2 or 3 weeks. I will let you know if it happens again. Sorry.

  6. It's happening again. And it's doing it on this thread, too. Still running Chrome.

I updated from Windows 7 to Windows 10 last month and I'm getting the "Image URL" popup again. I have checked all updates to Windows 10, and have re-started dozens of times. Ugh!

I am thinking that this is a local problem with your setup. Do you get the same problem with a different browser? Try using Edge. Also, you might try do a complete reset of Chrome to a first birthday state. An internet search can be found for doing that. Are you running any antivirus apps that might be interfering? This site is heavy in using java script, an AV app might be confused by this. Might also try updating your java script engine. I would also do a really deep scan for virus and malware, that stuff likes to infect java.

  8. Thanks for the reply. This was also happening to me just before I updated from Windows 7 to 10, so I don't think it's the OS. On the old 7, I tried Chrome and IE and still got the popup.

In addition to Chrome, I tried Edge. I checked Chrome for updates and I'm current. Running Avast and CCleaner (free editions). I do nightly virus scans with Avast. I had spybot earlier but it did not play well with Avast and I uninstalled it. I check for Windows updates regularly, and I think I remember seeing Java update when I installed Windows 10 a few weeks ago.

I am going to uninstall the Avast A/V and Browser to see if that makes any difference.

When this happened before, it just miraculously stopped. For weeks, I had the URL popup, then it suddenly went away without me changing anything. I think it will be something on my end, but I haven't found it yet. The Sr Admin here wrote that he will be looking into it. Fingers crossed.

    Happy Holidays to all.

In Chrome, I went to Settings / Clear Browsing Data and left all 3 boxes checked, then clicked on Clear Data. Now I get the regular upload photo popup that allows me to pick the photo out of my folders.

Hope this may help someone else out in the future.

    Happy Holidays to all.
