Glenn McCreery
There are no rules as to how you apply your post-processing to this image; but, please let us know what you have done so we can all learn. If you would like to post a candidate image next week, please ensure it is of sufficiently high resolution for manipulation by the participants (3000px on the long side, 300dpi for example). Most of all, let's have fun while we are learning or demonstrating how we use our post-processing software, imaginations and interpretations.. The photo was taken on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii, one of the world's premier surfing locations.
Dieter Schaefer
Cropped to 16:9 aspect ratio to eliminate empty sky and to focus more on the action. ACR manipulations include adjusting saturation, vibrance, highlights, shadows, exposure, whites, clarity, texture, and dehaze. Goal was to enhance the color of the waves:
tom_r
Cropped, a little HDR and color grading.
Leslie Reid
Here are two more takes (I couldn't stop playing with the image). Most of the processing was the same as for the first, but I also did a fair bit of cloning as a means of crowd control (mostly in Lightroom, but I had to clean up a few places in Photoshop).
Leslie Reid
This is a fun one, Glenn. I particularly like the colors in Dieter’s version and the drama in Tom’s—I fell a bit short on both. In Lightroom, I increased the white point, reduced the black point, shadows, and highlights, increased clarity, reduced texture, shifted blue-greens toward blue, increased contrast, and added some brushwork to try to bring out the spray (by playing with white point, texture, and clarity), then added gradients to darken and blue-up the background and darken and increase clarity in the foreground. All this manipulation further increased the halos around the near surfer, so I went into Photoshop and cloned out the halos. And now I’m going to have Windy and Warm as an earworm for the next several days.
mikemorrell
Great photo, Glenn! - adjusted levels and added linear contrast - cropped to bring the surfers 'closer' - added 1 more 'surfer'
igord
Levels and the green channel mixed in in PS for more 'regard dramatique'.
