Daniel Inspired me with his terrific duck pic, so I thought I would post one up since it has been a while....

I would very much like to see other folks ducks as well, so post em up :)

Looks to be a Cormorant. You'll have to be disqualified.

After seeing all the good 300mm pics that have been posted these last few days - It's working itself onto my list of eventual 'must have' lenses... :) Are you guys using tripods with these pics?

Most of mine were on a monopod and a few handheld. However, I have been realizing the need for a tripod since you frequently crop down long shots. A Great Egret is so big that you don't need it. But smaller birds require alot of cropping. Also, when you put a 2x extender in there it amplifies any vibration or movement. I just bought a CF Giottos with a Vangard head yesterday for $585 total. That's not a lot for a "birders" tripod.

I gots to say, that ducks are such a funny bird....They all make me laugh, but Matts pic with dog bringing his prize is simply awesome...

Alas, I am duckless... and don't see any ducks in my future...

Hand-held, Rose--there was a ton of light and the birds weren't all that far.

This morning I was experimenting shoot-up from a low angle to see what happens

The only duck I got is one ringing in my ears from 2 weeks ago as I smashed my head on a light fitting!
