clauder
Hi all,

I am in need of a portable (battery powered that is) flash system. I know that elinchrom makes a nice one (Ranger line), but the packs are 2500 euros with 1 head (and allow no asymetrical output, and only 2 ports for heads), as i would need 2 - 3 heads I would need to buy 2 packs then... that leaves me with a 5000 euros, whithout modifiers, which is simply too much...

Anybody know any good (it has to be easily available in europe though, and fit the 220V system, so no Novatron or other purely US systems please...) brands and models? Ws in the 600 - 1200 range should be more than enough for the kind of work I do)... Modifiers should be easily available too (at least medium and big softboxes, and grids)... thanks a lot! elliot_n
You could look at the new Bowens Gemini monolights - they work on location when combined with their Travelpak battery. (I'd wait a bit though, for some proper hands-on reviews to appear). No modelling light facility when using the battery. Apart from that seem promising - and within your budget. clauder
I'll look into those... (I won't need modelling lights, I have a digital camera tethered to a laptop on location anyways) thanks a lot
Gup
Claude, when I was faced with this same problem I bought two large Metz 70-5 mz units and extra batteries. They have wireless slave functions built in and modelling lights. I bounce them with two umbrellas on stands and have small portable light diffusers (boxes) that attach with velcro to the flash heads if need be. I use them with Hassleblads and Nikons. My portable studio. Gup.
peter_tannenbaum
Check out the Hensel Porty Or the profoto 7b. They both have great reputations.
