dave_holland
I bought pocketwizards to trigger remote Canon speedlites, but I don't seem to be able to get the remote PW to trigger either flash. Do I need a different cord, or is the cord that I have defective? Here's the connector cord that I have, which was recommended on photo.net for the 580EX: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/421306- REG/Paramount_PMMHSF1_Miniphone_to_Female_Hot.html I'm using this cord to connect the remote PW to the hot shoe of the flash. The other PW attaches easily to the camera PC or hotshoe. Is it a different cord for the 580 compared with my older flashes? Have any of you had success triggering these flashes with this cord? colinsouthern
Hi Dave, FYI, that link returned a "Page Not Found" error for me. I'm not sure if I'm on the right track or not - I'm assuming that a "pocket wizard" is some kind of wireless trigger? If so, I learned the hard way that some cheap brands don't work with many Canon speedlite models - the one I had would fire the flash once, but then I'd have to power the flash off and then on again before it would work again ... ... after a lot of research the issue was traced to the fact that these speedlites are triggered by a thyristor control circuit being closed - but they require the circuit to be opened again before the thyristor could be reset. Hope this helps.
dave_holland
Crap, the above link didn't work. Here's another try. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/421306-REG/Paramount_PMMHSF1_Miniphone_to_Female_Hot.html
joshroot
I have those cords and they work fine for my 550 and 430, I don't have a 580 though.
dave_holland
Thanks, Josh and Colin. As I was reading this, I noticed that the flash was not sliding on to the shoe mount all the way. With a little exacto-knife surgery, I cut off the excess plastic. Works fine after that. I knew I should have been a surgeon. Dave
