les
I have Sekonic L-558 with radio module RT-32 (both acquired from B&H). Itappears that the lightmeter works on FCC & IC frequency 344 Mhz (yes, it is thelightmeter which controls the frequency to my best knowledge). Now, in Australia the same lightmeter works on EC frequency 434 Mhz. It appearsthat radio module RT-32 is the same everywhere, though. Question: are there two versions of Pocket Wizards (one for 344 and one for 434Mhz) ? If yes - then I would have to buy Pocket Wizards from B&H, to be compatible withmy lightmeter. But: will I get into trouble for using a device which works on "unapproved"frequency ?
ellis_vener_photography
yes there are two frequencies. And they aren't compatible. So you can't mix them up. Blame differing laws between the USA and the rest of the world for this, not LPA Design who build the Pocketwizard. Will you get into trouble for using the wrong set of frequncies in the wrong country? I suppose you could but I've never heard of it actually happening. Ed_Ingold
I found in Europe and China that general purpose radio bands are usually used for something else. This renders wireless microphones useless. PW uses digital encoding and works, but may interfere with local usage. I didn't push the issue in China, out of courtesy as much as the legalities :-) However, I declared my radio gear on the Carnet form, which passed without comment. colinsouthern
"But: will I get into trouble for using a device which works on "unapproved" frequency ?" In theory, possibly yes. In practice, not a chance in hell.
