colleendonovan
Anyone else tired of the same old looking group shots, wedding after wedding?? I am! I feel like I don't get enough time on the busy wedding day to be as creative as I want. I'm working on that this year and am hoping to get more time with the bridal party as well as some day after sessions with the bride and groom. In the meantime would you please post a great example of one of your group shots that you feel is better than average?? The one I'm posting below isn't too special in regards to the pose, but I love the expressions on the ladies' faces and the colors. :) Thanks for your help!!<div></div>
bird_photography
I think that this formal and classics group shot is what people usually expect from photograper. This is you who take a lot of weddings and feel stale of thinking of creative group photo :-) Anyway, sometimes things a lot depends on people you are photographing, atmosphere and place. buckry
Here's my favorite pose I never used before from last year. Really though, I don't sweat being creative with group formals. You've got the venue constraining you, you've got the number of people being a possible problem, and you've got the personality of everyone involved. I focus my creativity on the bride and groom. That's the biggest payoff in every possible way. If you get lucky and all of the pieces come together great, but I don't worry if it's not working out. alex_dc
I tried keeping this group moving. I like how dynamic it is, but some people may be bothered that you can't see all of their faces. We did lots of group shots at this wedding, and this was my favorite.<div></div>

markonestudios
Try and make it <a href='http://www.photo.net/photo/6701839'>fun</a> and <a href='http://www.photo.net/photo/6701784'>dynamic</a> and also play on <a href='http://www.photo.net/photo/6851112'>symmetry</a>...:)

conraderb
very nice dave... I'm a big fan of movement - gets peoples' focus off of the camera and onto each other...
karina_a
Lots of gorgeous shots there. I'm not a pro yet, but here is one from a friends wedding I shot a while back - still want to lighten some faces in PS now that I have finally learnt how to do it.<div></div>
karina_a
Whoops - those colours are awful - don't look anything like what is on my monitor - forgot to convert from Adobe RGB to sRGB for the web - lets see if it makes a difference... (can you delete the other one - sorry Mary).<div></div>
kaiyen
Russ, Just curious - is that shot of yours early on in the thread just you on a step ladder with on-camera flash? allan
steve_c.5
Here are some ideas. These are downsized from the album pages I designed for this client. Note how I try to "shoot for the album" by deliberately off-centering some shots. I do this with cake shots too.
