Picture of the week 10/3/08

I guess we take turns starting this bandwidth consuming thread. I spend most of my vacation near the sea or a lake

so my contribution this week has a maritime theme.

It's sunday morning here in Scandinavia so I guess it's sunday even by pnet standards.

Two are from our cabin in the deep swedish woods, and the third are from my home town. I love our cabin. It's a

place of tranquility.

The first two were taken with my k10d and the 31mm.
00QSRI-63109584.jpg.161d08f6b8eb586427069b8d66de1ad1.jpg

The last one is in colour.. Ghasp.. I know, I'm outta my mind. Very desaturated though, so I'll live. It reminds me of a polaroid, which is a film format I greatly miss using. Consider it an hommage.

This was taken with the 43mm, whom has been used way to little after the purchase of the 31mm. I wish I could use both at the same time, but no such zoom exists.

I love my primes :-)
00QSRP-63109784.jpg.19b3eeea37151f7b43a4a988987905b8.jpg

10/3/08? Is that how dates are written in Scandinavian? :-)
Great shots here kicking off the weekly string... I agree with Javier, that first Frederick shot is really nice. Javier, you always amaze with your sharp shooting and I like the second pic the best, though I understand your preference for the first. Markus, I like your cat photo, and you have left me wondering if you intended any innuendo there.. :-)

I hesitate to post three shots because I am taking my camera to a bday party tomorrow where our friends 5yo is having a "wedding themed" bday party, and there will be around 50 kids all dressed up and our friends hosting it happen to be incredible florists/designers..

nevertheless, I had some Friday night fun with my kids at the ditch down the street, so I am just going to pick a few anyway ..

Oh what I would give to spend a few days on the shores of a lake in Sweden! Fredrik, great shots! Javier, the shots of your son (in this

post and others) with the camera (s) are priceless. You will value them even more as he gets older. Dave, thanks for the one. I didn't get

out much this week and when I did I took the macro. (sig. 105)
00QSVR-63143784.jpg.2bd6f3b83dfe4c038dc866f7ca32404e.jpg

Javier, your bird-pics have impressive 3-D quality ! And Todd, I like your creative approach
I made only one presentable picture this week, the first here, close up on a gladiolus.
Still, I’ve been working very hard on my pp skills, and would like to show two examples of that, if I may. I will enter a new thread later today with more samples of my handicraft. All in all it has taken me three weeks to pp the holliday pics……
The art of pp manipulation is not my main thing really, but I feel I need to master it, and need to get proper control of photoshop.

The gladiolus
I got loads of seagulls after my holliday, and I’ve been trying to place them against a (better) background. The difficulty is obtaining similar light an ambience so as to get a realistic image.

Another approach is (trying) to create completely surrealistic images, such as these

You guys are quick on the draw. It's 08:55 here on the most easterly point in North America and being that far

east east we have our own little time zone. Fredrik, love the first shot, simply superb. Markus, where's that

store, I see some interesting shopping for my beautiful wife. Great capture on the cat's eyes. Javier, your third

photo is amazing, it looks like something in National Geographic, well done. Todd the shopping cart being

engulfed by shrubs is a thought provoking capture. It illustrates how insignificant mankind's creations are to

the earth. Thanks for posting that shot. Interesting playground perspective Dave, I like it.

Here are two from me. The first actually looks better in color because the Scarlet jackets are a significant part

of the image and the local history. This island is not only Britain's oldest colony but was part of the United

Kingdom up until 1949.
00QSVn-63147584.jpg.6f32012300b204f1c7630da60df6f13e.jpg

Wow you guys are really quick, while I was typing and posting both Robert and O Shiva posted shots. Robert, the web is terrific, great DOF and lighting. O Shiva, love the surreal B&W, it's a complete Wow shot. Guy, reduce your image size to 700 wide and post. Cheers.

Another group of interesting pictures, but I do have a couple of favorites. Javier, I've really been enjoying your "on the job" portraits of your son. I can really see his serious attitude in hes expression. O Shiva, that might be the best shot of a seagull I have ever seen. They are usually such a boring bird.

My contribution for this week is the portrait of a young man I had the pleasure of meeting for the first time on Tuesday morning. The son of a close friend. In the excitement I forgot to add a hairlight, so there is a lack of separation from the background. The next time I hope to be a little calmer!

So far, I really like Dave's playground, Robert's Web, and O Shiva's seagull. I think the seagull being slightly unnatural gives it a menacing edge.

Went to a parade last week and came home with a couple that I like. Seems like there is always the "killer" shot that has some problem that makes it unusable. I thought it might be fun to have an Almost the Picture of the Week. Might learn a lot by showing your most disappointing photo for the week.

Here is a tuba shot that I like:
00QSZ2-63169584.jpg.77b9d1609f0163ae7f1909e739ee9da6.jpg
