Photoshop: Copying multiple layers to another PSD file

  1. I would like to copy MULTIPLE layers (Typically all of them) from one PSD file to another, in one single step, rather than one at a time manually, which is what I'm doing now. I have several PSD files, each generated from a separate PanoTools stitch, and I like to generate one file that has all the separate layers (many many layers) at the end. FWIW, I'm investigating how to take better advantage of multitiple processors to stitch panoramas, since i'm impatient. By running two instances of PTStitcher, each with a separate set of source images, the whole stitch takes half as much time, but then I have 2 PSD files to be merged by copying one layer at a time, which is a bit manual. For small numbers of layers it's not bad, for for a larger panorama could bet tedious and errorprone. Thanks in advance for any ideas.
  2. Hi Rob: TWO WAYS: First, link all the layers in the source file. Then either: 1. Copy by dragging the actual layer (not from the Layers Palette) to the new file - this will copy all linked layers OR 2. Make a new "Layer Set" from the linked files. This effectively puts the linked layers into a "folder" in the Layers Palette. Then you can simply drag the Layer Set over to the new file. Rich
  3. Hey, thanks! It took me a while to figure out exactly what you meant, but I got it working. I found it works better to turn Autoselect Layer OFF using the Move tool, since holding down the shift key unlinks the layer under the pixel you click on, and I need the shift key to align the layer in the destination document. Thanks again! I can now stitch panos in half the time, AND not spend a lot of time copying layers one at a time!
  4. Thanks Richard
  5. The other simple option is to select all the layers then click duplicate, In the window that comes up is an option that says document use the dropdown menu to select the other file.
Hope the simple approach will work for you.
