stuart_farquhar
Hi y'all

I'm Shane from sunny London (ok, I know that's an oxymoron :)) and this is my first post on Photo.net.

I only took up photography properly about 4 years ago but have tried to learn and experiment as much as possible in that time. I bought an old DSLR, a 40 year old lens, and read many articles on exposure in order to learn the basics of photography. Within a year I had tried my hand at HDR (don't hate me!), light painting, and long exposures. I then learned how to post process and found that I could use my love of painting and art to change RAW images into the look and feel that I desired.

I mainly use a Fuji X100S now for digital but have developed a love for film photography and use an Olympus OM-1n. I guess I've moved away from the perfect, sterile look of digital and prefer the imperfect, gritty look of film. Even with some of my digital pics now I make them look more analogue (I know this is an impossible task) if I can...not all, but some. I love the X100S partly because it allows me to set the aperture and shutter speeds via its retro controls. This helps me do the same with the OM1, and gradually through practice I've improved in guessing what the settings could be depending on the available light.

My short term goals: I would like to get a medium format camera since I love 6x6 pics, and also do more reportage / street work, which I've never really managed to get excited about.

I hope to post more and will probably ask some stupid questions in the meantime ;)

William Kahn
Hello, Shane, and welcome to PNet. Coincidentally, there's another new member who seems to be from the same artistic gene pool as you, so you might want to check this out:

http://www.photo.net/website-creation-forum/00cYoz?unified_p=1
stuart_farquhar
Thanks Louis and William.

@ William
Thanks for the link. I wouldn't say my processing is like Jean-Marc's, although I can appreciate his work and photography is 100% subjective anyway.

Here's a recent pic I took in Rome and that I processed.
