colin carron
This message came up in my browser. Is it me or PN?
Bill J Boyd
I get the same message. Something about certificates expired on August 20. Unable to open PN on Firefox. I can open PN with my usual Safari but now unable to upload photos to No Words. Very frustrating....
Rick Bortnick
Nope it is them. Their security certificate expired at 3:30 (EST). As this was a very foreseeable item/situation, it is just another rung in the apparent, uncaring ladder. This just adds to the "I'll let my paying membership expire" line of thought. Hector Javkin
You can create an exception on Firefox, but if you do, it's best to make uncheck the permanent exception box. I don't think the staff at PN is uncaring, but they're not getting enough resources to properly maintain the site. Of course, that means fewer of us will renew our subscriptions, and even fewer resources will be available.
Sanford
No doubt all will be back to normal by Monday. Similar issues with Drudge Report today.
Norma Desmond
You can create an exception on Firefox, but if you do, it's best to make uncheck the permanent exception box. Thanks, Hector. That's what I just did and it worked. Though I couldn't upload a photo using Safari, I followed your instructions for Firefox and was able to upload a photo to No Words. We didn't need dialogue. We had faces!
Phil_Light
Secure Site Logon Failing - Bad Cert Invalid Date - No HTTPS Folks I am getting all sorts of security alerts now for Photo.net - Where Photographers Inspire Each Other with the message that; NET::ERR_CERT_DATE_INVALID. This allegedly exposes my logon credentials for a man in the middle interception. Please update certificate with valid date expiration.
Spearhead
Probably better not to login until situation is resolved. If you were logged in prior to the certificate expiration, it shouldn't matter as your login should be tied to a cookie. Tim_Lookingbill
Jeff, what if I login automatically due to my browser remembering my password? I just click "Sign In" at the top of the forum page and a dialog box pops up with the dots representing password and I just click "Sign In" button. I had to create an exception in Firefox but I couldn't find where to uncheck "Permanent Exception" box.
Norma Desmond
Jeff, just out of curiosity, what is the risk in logging in, which I already did when I used Firefox? Have already logged off on that browser. We didn't need dialogue. We had faces!
Phil_Light
Also noticed redirects to photographers Profile pages are also not working when clicking on one of the images from the PN home page. Getting an HTTP "404" not found message with images or referrals from external links that are redirected to secure profile pages.
PapaTango
I had the same thing happen--chose the exception. Cannot speak for other browser solutions--as I had to give up FF and Chrome in dealing with PN 2.mess. Can't upload in FF, various things and links do not work in Chrome. Edge is it now, and it just does not have the features; but it does upload. In Edge, the link set (including the button Profile) out of the portfolio page does nothing now. Yes, letting a security certificate expire shows a lot of things about the state of PN. Admin and developers seem more interested in the color of the drapes in the windows than they are over serious structural defects in the building. The hits just keep on coming. Nothing amiss, and the back and forth reminds me a lot of something else. Oh yes, it's this! For your philosophical perusal and entertainment, 2 "I See Things..." Spearhead
Jeff, just out of curiosity, what is the risk in logging in Without SSL, the password is transmitted without encryption, which means it can be picked up through eavesdropping on internet traffic. With SSL, the data passing back and forth is encrypted and is pretty much secure. This is more important for credit cards, but if you use the same email/password combination on another site, it could be used there too. It also guarantees that the site your browser is communicating with has not been spoofed. I have noticed some bizarre behavior, just as Phil Light has. Different issues, but things don't seem real happy. what if I login automatically due to my browser remembering my password? That isn't any better. The password is still sent by your browser and will be sent insecurely if there is no SSL. 1 Music and Portraits Blog: Life in Portugal
Tim_Lookingbill
Looks like as of 1AM central standard this site is now secure going by Firefox's URL lock icon without the exclamation mark with cursor roll over popup indicating "Verified by Digicert, inc." Clicking on the lock icon says "Photo.net Secure Connection". That was quick! Thanks to those at PN that fixed this. And thanks to Jeff "Spearhead" for the encrypted password through SSL info. colin carron
Yes, I see Photo.net now coming up as secure again.
technicalsupport
Sorry Guys! We've updated the SSL Cert late yesterday to resolve the old one being expired. Photo.net has been updated to an official Wildcard SSL Certificate to consolidate security across our subdomains.
Rick Bortnick
So we now have technical support.... really. It looks as if they too are looking at color choices for drapes rather than the cracks in the wall (if I can paraphrase PapaTango).
