Photo critique forum on aperture, shutter

Recommended Posts

We have on Photo.net a lot of categories in Critique Forum which follow conventional way of sorting picture like portraits, fine art, architecture etc etc. After the digitial era there is a new category called digitial alerations. Probably, each category represents a situation and also a form of presenting a latitude of realistic artistry.
I just wonder, whether it possible to have cateogies on Aperture, Shutter, Lens, ISO Film (but that is outdated now) to appreciate the basic technical aspects of photography. I think there will be a spontaneous awareness among beginners in photography when they see the pictures in such type of forums. The effect of these key parameters will be right away visible in the pictures. May be with a rule that posting is allowed in these categories only when the technical details on the picture are given by the photographer.

The categories in the critique forum are very specifically broad. Otherwise we would end up with 500 categories with 2 photos in each. Pretty useless.

With the new image tagging system, there will be a lot of new ways to search for photos that you are interested in, and this should solve your issue.

Such a rule would serve absolutely no constructive purpose for the vast majority of photographers and viewers who appreciate photography for the artistic value rather than the technicalities involved.

It would also force people to fabricate data for photographs taken using film or Polaroid cameras years ago, for which the data was unrecorded or lost.

And for those who enjoy HDR photography, which particular shutter speed or aperture would you require them to specify?

Photographers who are interested in sharing such technical details already do so. For the rest, it's as irrelevant as asking a painter whether she uses only Kolinsky sable brushes or whether she sullies her art with hog bristle.
