j. ray
This sells on EBAY for about $95 and at B&H for a bit more. Basically it is a ring of daylight balanced LEDs that are always on. I have read mixed reviews so please share your experience if you own one. I could only find the following mini-review.
I am particularly interested in dental applications of this product. brooks short
That LED ringlight, according to the linked review is NOT daylight balanced. In fact, at 3000 degrees Kelvin, it's not really tungsten balanced either. In the same review there is mention of the low level of light and the use of slow shutter speeds and tripods. Not a good choice for your intended use. Save your money. Look for a better quality, known brand electronic flash macro ring light such as the one made by Nikon. j. ray
Thank you for your response. I guess I should have read the linked review more closely. You are right, I don't want to use a tripod or slow shutter speeds so I guess this one is a non-starter. 3000k is less of a problem since I can set the Kelvin temp in the WB settings or simply shoot RAW and use WhiBal. But on balance I think I will pass. Its just that ring-flashes are so heinously expensive that I thought this could be an innovative short cut. Guess not.
