Hot Rod Magazine Founder Petersen Dies

By Staff

Mar 28, 2007

Robert E. Petersen, who turned his love of cars into a string of popular

magazines, including Hot Rod and Motor Trend, has died at 80 in Santa Monica, Calif.

*** END QUOTE ***

"Petersen's PHOTOgraphic" was one of the photography magazines I read

obsessively when I was a callow youth in the 1970's. RIP, Mr. Petersen.

In 1948, I was 19, and "Hot Rod" was a dirty term to most adults. I had a T roadster with a Model A engine. I also was into shooting, photography, and later, into skin diving.

Those magazines were our Bibles. At first, if you didn't get to the newsstand early, Hot Rod would be sold out. Petersen's career in publishing is one of the most outstanding in history, and he started with NOTHING!
