steven_bristow
I just bought a Pentax 6x7 and it has the most severe mirror slap of any camera I have ever seen. Is it supposed to have a foam mirror bumper? If so, how thick should it be?
WJT
Hi Steven. I took a look at both of my bodies, a 6x7 and a 67II. There is a single very thin small piece of foam rubber, about 0.3cm x 1cm x 2mm, glued to the front of the roof of the mirror chamber on the right as one looks into the camera from the front with the lens removed. That's it. The mirror slap on my 6x7 is more pronounced than on the 67II, which would be expected because of their respective ages. I had the foam seals replaced on the 6x7 not that long ago because they tend to degenerate over a period of years, but I do not think that the foam mirror bumper was included.

In any case, both of these bad boys sound like a shotgun when they go off! Since most of my work is in landscapes it has never been a problem. If you shoot weddings in a quiet church, however, I think these would wake everyone up. Regards.
steven_bristow
Thanks!

I looked a little closer at mine, it has the remnants of a piece about that size. It's pretty crumbly. I would have have the bumper should extend from one side to the other like most cameras.
