Pentax 645, 150mm F3.5 lens

Please forgive this request as I can not find any reviews on Google.

I have recently purchased a 150mm F3.5 lens for my Pentax 645. Would

like to hear from others who have used this lens as well for

portraiture, I am interested in "Head and Shoulders" composition,

Not tight head shots. How does this version compare to the F2.8

besides being slower? Thanks.

I can't compare it to the f2.8 since I've never used it. But, I have used the f3.5 for portraits, and think the world of it. I'm a big fan of Pentax lenses in general, and this one does not disappoint (in my humble opinion).

I have both, plus the 135 LS f/4

 

The 150 3.5 is somewhat smaller, but not really appreciably lighter--435 vs. 500 gms for the 2.8.

 

It has a built-in lens hood.

 

The 2.8 is internal focus and the 3.5 external.

 

All in all, if you don't really need autofocus, at least in my opinion, any close focus distance advantage isn't worth the difference in bucks. I tried sometime back to measure the difference for someone else's post on point and as I recall I couldn't really tell enough difference to make a difference.

 

The half stop difference may help old eyes focus a bit better, but the size advantage and integral hood might make the 3.5 a better travel lens.

 

For whatever it's worth, I've used the 3.5 for head and shoulders portraits with studio lighting (and for head shots as well): I doubt if you'll be disappointed with what you already have.
