Pentax 2X Converter for 645

The longest Pentax 645 lens I currently own is the f4.5 200mm, which

is generally sufficient. For those few times that I want to extend

(but don't want to buy the hugely expensive 400)does anyone have any

input on that particular combination (Pentax 2x conv and Pentax

200mm). I am certainly aware of light loss and am more interested

in image degredation with this combo. Thanks, Chuck

I have 200 f4 and the 2x.

I got a 645N when they first came out. At that time there was no autofocus portrait lens, so I decided to get the 2x to try with the 75 to see if it would do as a stop gap until they released a portrait length lens and then keep it to occasionally double whatever longest lens I eventually wound up with.

Although I don't have a very precise recollection of the results, I was sufficiently disappointed that I bought the manual focus 150 f3.5.

I got the 200 f4 when they were released, but have used it very little with the 2x (not because of performance--I just don't shoot subjects that need it).

I haven't experimented to see what level of degradation there is.

Rather, I've just used it for travel snapshots when the P645 and a digital point and shoot were the only cameras I had with me. Thus my expectations were fairly low to begin with.

My sense is that it would be useful to use the same way I do, but that you would probably be better served by a 200 on 35mm or a 150 on a digital SLR if the P645 isn't the only equipment available.
