Padded bag inserts

I have a courier-style bag (from CourierWare in

Cambridge, MA) that I'd like to use to carry my SQ kit, but the bag

is unpadded. I've been thinking about buying

some kind of padded insert to hold the camera/lens/back combination,

but I haven't had much luck finding one the right size-- 7 1/2"L x 4

1/4"W x 4 1/2"H.

So far all I've found are the Domke inserts, none of which

appear to the right size. The other major manufacturers don't seem to

be selling their inserts separately.

Does anyone know of any other sources for padded camera-bag-style

inserts?

You could try making some of your own with foam padding, either by cutting into thick foam blocks or using thin foam rolls (like the "egg-carton" material), but it may be labor-intensive and/or messy-looking.

Alternative: find a ripped-up camera bag that's approximately the same size and get the innards out. The LowePro bags I've handled have liners which come right out.

CourierWare makes a paded insert for it's small, and extra-small courier bags. It's basically a padded doughnut. They also supply a rubber mat to protect the bottom of the camera.

If you don't have the style that takes the rubber pad via the front pocket, I would still reccomend getting the "Photo Insert" (2 pieces), and working from there.

I have the Insert/Pad, and like it. I use it for my nikon and long lens. My only complaint is that the side/wall padding can cave in with heavy equipment. You'd probably have this problem with any inserts. My wife sews, and I've been thinking about asking her to sew some velcro onto the padding, and walls of the bag to keep the pads in place.

Anyways, I think CourierWare does custom orders, and can probably help out. Try them direct.
