charles_stobbs3
I am planning to buy a new camera case made of PU leather and am worried about any outgassing depositing on the lens. Does anyone have any suggestions or experiences to share?
JDMvW
I have -- in getting old cameras --, however. accumulated a lot of old polyurethane cases. Outgassing, cracking, crumbling to bits are all common faults as they age. Perhaps they have solved the problems? My experience makes me skeptical, however. Only time will tell. Of course real leather, wood, plastic, can also age poorly. I've practically settled on gore-tex like 'canvas', but it is not perfect or immortal either. Ed_Ingold
Leather retains moisture, which leads to mildew on lenses. Urethane is okoy until it starts to lose its elasticity and decompose. It lasts about 15-20 years. A glass display case is probably the best in the long haul.
