_Alex_
I noticed B&H has stopped carrying the press pack of 50 rolls of tri-x(36exp). The import pack used to be around $130. Adorama has the USpress pack for $185, but I'm curious if any of you know a reliableplace for the import or USAW stuff. I used to bulk load my own film but that got to be a pain the a$$. Thanks for any info!
stevierose
I believe I have read that Kodak has stopped overseas manufacture of Tri-X and therefore "imported" tri-x is no longer available. I will be interested to hear other responses to this thread.
_Alex_
Aw, hell no. That would suck. :(
huw_finney
In the UK all (tri-x) we can get is imported!
andrew_hull
Alex: The cheapest around that I could find for a large order a few days ago was for "USAW" at B&H in NY. It's the stuff made for export and you save from the full USA but not as much as the import. Andrew
rolfe_tessem
I think this happened when Kodak consolidated manufacture of all or mostly all B&W films in a new plant. At that time they made some tweaks to Tri-X and presumedly those tweaks were not duplicable in the overseas plants. At least that scenario fits with the known facts. andrew_hull
Actually I had bought the new 400TX as imported film, so that is not the case.
rolfe_tessem
Andrew, That's the first report I've heard of anyone getting the new film imported. Did you get it from B&H or someplace else?
andrew_hull
I am pretty sure (80%) that the film I took last summer to Portugal was made outside the USA (UK to be specific). I know for certain that I paid import prices at B&H for it). Although it could have been non-import, I did pay IMPORT prices for it. I just checked what was in the cooler now and it is USA, but I have commingled different purchases. The reason that I think that I did manage to get import 400TX is that a) I remember the first couple of import purchases that I made were old tx400, and I am rather certain that the 400TX was made in the USA and then put together in the UK. Take all of this with a grain of salt, but I THINK that I am right.
rolfe_tessem
Well, as someone else has already noted, you can get the USAW stuff from B&H, but that isn't as cheap as the actual gray market stuff used to be.
johnmarkpainter
Get out your Bulk loader...... I have started using the Generic HP5 from freestylephoto.biz They call it "Arista Pro 400". I also have a 100ft Roll of import TX (I use TX when I want develop with Rodinal or Diafine). The Arista Pro 400 is a fine 'walking around' film. jmp
andrew_hull
Or look into Neopan 400 imported at B&H for only 1.99, I have heard that it compares favorably to 400TX.
._._z
Neopan's $2.49 there, not $1.99. And it's out of stock.
andrew_hull
I am sure they will get more... I was thinking of the Neopan 100SS, which is $1.99.
rolfe_tessem
HP5+ at $2.65/roll seems like the best alternative, but it is also out of stock at B&H :-(.
