john_r._fulton_jr.
The Billingham vest looks interesting. Anybody use one? How is it in hot weather? Other comments about the vest?
al_kaplan1
I wouldn't use ANY vest here in Miami in the summer. I' very much a bag man!
michaelwildi
And I would use at least three vests and all at the same time here in cold Switzerland. And I would still freeze my arms off. Sorry for this silly answer, but I'm just in a silly mood. Michael
john_r._fulton_jr.
It's probably a silly question. I'm just asking to see how well it works and whether it's any good for hot weather (I live in Texas). I have Banana Republic and Domke vests but just don't wear them. So, I guess I'm wondering if there's another vest I should get that I won't wear either. <bg>
jay_.
The Billingham vest is Ventile, very expensive (big surprise!)and not hardly meant for hot climates. I have about 6 vests and only 3 of them are wearable in hot weather: a nylon Orvis travel vest (haven't seen it in their catalogue in a long time), a mesh vest I got for $17 from Campmor about 6 years ago on a closeout, and a nylon vest from TravelSmith for $59 which is the only one still in production. Go to www.travelsmith.com and plug in catalog# 8768 in the search box.
Nowhereman
I don't see how you could weary ANY vest in really hot weather. --Mitch/Bangkok
max_wall
John, I use a Simms Guide Vest (Fly Fishing). It is short in length; light in weight; and spacious. Simms is a Bozeman, MT company, and the vest sells for $149. Check out: www.simmsfishing.com/editable/vest_guideVest.shtml. I do not carry around a lot of equipment, so the vest works fine for me. george_l._doolittle
Have a look at L.L.Bean at the Bob Krist designed vest. It's the best I've seen and fairly comfortable in warm weather especially vs. other vests. Krist is a well-known travel photographer who works is some pretty hot areas. Furthermore, many vests have too many pockets for me. Things get lost.
terrestrikon
The Simms vest mentioned above is made in China. I just checked. G.
terrestrikon
So is the Krist vest (made in China, that is). Again, I just checked. Hard to find stuff made in the US these days, though somehow I'll bet that photographers in Europe have a much easier time finding photographic apparel made in the EU. G. albert knapp md
I have the Billingham vest and find it well made and practical. I use it on occasions as I really prefer a camera bag. If I were to do it again, probably would NOT buy it (or any other one.)
john_r._fulton_jr.
Thanks all for the answers. I checked all the sites and I appreciate the "OT" feedback. Albert Knapp MD--quick question--the Billingham looks like a moderate to cool weather vest and not so good when it starts gettiing warm? Would that be your evaluation?
