davidconstantine
Hello! I have acquired some photographs from the film Full Metal Jacket (1987). I was curious to know if anyone knew if the photos themselves are authentic from the period. I don't know if there is a way to know or find out? If made in Germany would it have been West Germany or did the West Germans see themselves as Germany in the 80's? These were bought on eBay and the seller has no idea on the origins. Anything helps thanks!
tholte
Great photos! I can't answer your questions but I liked the movie. The first part of the movie that dealt with Marine boot camp was the most accurate depiction of what boot camp was like in the late sixties. It helped that the main drill instructor was actually a real Marine drill instructor. I can vouch for the accuracy because I was a lowly boot in 1969 and I can still remember just about every wonderful day and how accommodating the drill instructors were to our every physical, mental and spiritual needs.
JDMvW
boot camp was like in the late sixties. I think Kubrick was aware of F. Wiseman's documentary Basic Training (1971, link). It's a must see if you like Kubrick's take. That is not to disparage Kubrick of whom I am a big fanboy (I even have a copy of The Killer's Kiss 1955!). In the field A lot of the movie Nikons have what look like 105mm f/2.5 lenses. This one could be a 50mm though.
