Omega E5 5x7 enlarger 210mm enlarging lens?

I recently purchased a 5x7 Omega autofocus enlarger and I have a few

questions I'm sure somebody can help me out with. The focus track I

have is for a 190mm enalrging lens and I have a 210mm lens. After a

night of messing around I figured I'd better get in touch with Harry

at classic enlargers. Harry informed me that I would need a 210mm

focusing track for the enlarger to work right. What he wasnt sure

about was the size of the lens cone. Harry mentioned about an add on

focus bellows for a $150 but I was curious if any users of this

enlarger use a 210 and if so what size lens cone they use. I have

tried to operate this enlarger manually but have found that it is

quite a pain because of the focusing bellows are very tricky to

operate it can be done but man it is a pain. I have the orignal 190mm

lens on the way but I would really like to use the 210 Rodenstock

Rodagon over the 190mm wollensk. Which brings up another question of

what kind of image quaily difference might I see if any. I will be

enlarging 5x7 negatives to a max of about 16x20 with an average of

11x14. Any helpful info would be great.

sorry john,

i mis-spoke ...

i have a bellows-cone and i use it with several of the tracks ...

it shouldn't too hard to get the right extension with the bellows, and fine tune it

with the "fine tuning" focus-knob.

it is a good idea to have the cones and tracks, i decided to cut corners when i

started to use the aux-bellows-cone, so i wouldn't have to get all the different

cones ( i use both a 150mm and 135mm on the D3V, and a 210mm on the

E4). i can't comment on the look/image quality for the 210mm over

the190mm. sorry for the confusing answer before ..

best of luck

john

Hi John, On my Automega E5 I made a special cone up for my 180 APO-Rodagon. It's about 4 inches long and larger in diameter than the slide-in slot will allow so I had to put a waist on it. A smaller cone may mechanically vignette. This will allow the lens to focus at max extension but only if I move the tracking wheel off the rail. The max enlargement at this point is the 20 inch length of a 16x20 on the baseboard. Had I made the cone 5 inches or more, I could focus it with the wheel on a rail. My favorite lens on the enlarger is a 150 EL-Nikkor which is on an auxiliary bellows focusing slide-in. This lens permits 20x24's on the baseboard. Good luck.
